Telling Your Story & Marketing Your Category
Join us to take in the lessons, experience, and stories from Lorenzo Gomez III. Lorenzo will discuss the intricacies of the elements that are included in a captivating story and how you can tie them to pitching your business - or even yourself. Every company needs to be number one in something. This session will help companies figure out what they can be famous for, and, if they aren't number one in a category, how to create their own.

If you've never heard him before, you're in for a treat, and if you have heard him before, you know the stories he tells and the ways that Lorenzo is able to connect with other humans is much of the reason why Geekdom and the tech community has grown to what it is today. Come on in, and learn how to perfect that pitch from one of the greats!

USAA Presents: Breakfast of Champions: Leveraging Gender Diversity for Financial Gain
In study after study, companies with more gender diverse teams have been shown to outperform financially. Yet the funding levels for women-led startups are still abysmal (2-3% of venture-backed startups have a woman CEO, and only 17% of venture-backed startups have even a single woman on the executive team).  How can women entrepreneurs leverage their advantages and mitigate the challenges in fundraising?  Hear from women entrepreneurs, investors & startup leaders about how you can change the landscape - and make more money by doing so.  The magic here is in the diversity, so this session is not intended for women only.

Creating Your First Pitch Deck
Creating a clear, compelling pitch deck is crucial at any stage of the fundraising process for a business owner. Founders use a pitch deck to highlight the most important aspects of their business and provide investors with the information needed for an educated investment decision.

This class will provide you a detailed outline to create your first pitch deck. You can bring your own laptop if you want to take advantage of inspiration during this workshop.

We will go through step-by-step on how to capture your business concept in a pitch deck as well as how to tell your startup's story. If you’ve already started a deck this workshop can help you assess the content and structure of your current deck and make necessary changes to ensure it matches investors’ expectations.

You’ll leave with an outline for creating a 10-12 page deck for pitching your concept to investors, with step-by-step guidelines for each slide in your pitch deck. You will also receive a list of online resources that can help in developing or refining your pitch deck.

Product Launch: 1 Million Dreams
One Million Dreams /1MDreams mobile app goes live!

1MDreams/One Million Dreams* is a Geekdom born Startup that has built a mobile application designed to help users create and accelerate their dreams. Think about this: an app that helps users build a roadmap to pursue and achieve their boldest aspirations and is a 100% positive social media site at the same time!
1MDreams mission is to improve lives and communities and build a world of dreamers and doers.
Dreams are defined here as those things we seek to achieve that are bigger than just our goals.
The 1MDreams app is built on both iOS for iPhone and Android platforms and can be accessed at the AppStore and on Google Play.
The “dream profile” features on the app are robust and include alerts that keep users engaged and on track. The social component is organized into categories of dreams and allows users to like and comment on each other’s dreams, which helps crowd source the mentoring and needed connections that activate and advance dreamer efficacy. These features also alert the user when engagement and activity occur.
One Million Dreams founder Winslow Swart is an organizational development practitioner who has helped leaders and teams of large and small enterprises on three continents achieve personal and professional success. Winslow is a founding member of Geekdom and established the Eastside Dreamers Academy to help at-risk youth work on their dreams, as well as providing dream mentor programs for executives and team members across industries in both the public and private sector.

Podcast Documentary Viewing: The Messengers
We're excited to invite Chris Krimitsos to join us for San Antonio Startup Week to share a screening of his Podcast Documentary: The Messengers!

Stay tuned for more details on the after conversation once the film has been show.

About the Messengers:

Thursday, February 18, 2016 was a busier day than most. As Founder and Executive Director of Podfest, one of the largest annual conferences for podcasting in the country, Chris Krimitsos was running in seven different directions, locking down final details for the Second Annual Podfest, which was opening the next week.
As he was frantically crisscrossing Tampa that day, Chris was struck by just how many established and respected podcasters were going to be attending the next weekend’s conference – folks like Danny PeñaGlenn the GeekLee SilversteinKatie KrimitsosJessica KupfermanDave JacksonDiane Daniels, and so many more.
Chris began envisioning a way to utilize all the talent he’d have under one roof to inspire others via their stories. As often happens in creative endeavors, that kernel of an idea soon blossomed into a full-fledged film.
As a creative with years of experience in business, Chris knew that every good idea takes tons of focus, dedication and hard work to become a reality. But did he have a good idea? To answer that question, he turned to his friend Niel Guilarte of Wildstyle Media – someone who had considerable experience in film and television production.
“If this is a bad idea, tell me now,” Chris said, “If it’s good, we’ll all be shooting a movie this year!” Niel agreed and just a week later, Chris had hired a crew to shoot the first interviews at that weekend’s Podfest!
The Messengers: A Podcast Documentary was born!
